2021 Resident Visa

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

1) Held or had applied for an eligible visa* on or before 29 Sept 2021; AND 

2) Meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • Settled : having spent 3 years in New Zealand as of 29 Sept 2021;

  • Skilled : paid the median wage of $27 per hour or above

  • Scarce : jobs on the Scarce List

All applicants should meet the health and character requirements. 

(*Eligible visa type includes most major types of work visas, including but not limited to Essential Skills Work Visa, Post-Study Work Visa, Work to Residence Visa. Holders of Open Work Visas based on partnership, Student Visas#, Working Holidays Visa, RSE Visa are not eligible.)

#Student visa holders who have applied for an eligible visa (e.g. post-study work visa) before 30 Sept 2021 will be eligible. 

How can Critical Purpose Visa Holders from overseas benefit from this one-off 2021 Resident Visa?

While this visa mainly benefits temporary work visa holders currently in New Zealand, it may also provide a pathway to residence to some critical purpose visa holders arriving in New Zealand between 30 September 2021 and 31 July 2022. Partners and dependents can be included in these residence applications.

 

Two groups of Critical Purpose Visa Holders who are granted visa for 6 months or above will be eligible:

 

  1. Critical health workers with a role for 6 months or longer, and

  2. Other critical workers with a role for more than 6 months and be granted a visa for more than 6 months.

 

  • All applications under this 2021 Resident visa must be made by 31 July, 2022.
